The overarching message behind insurance is that if you don’t have it, you’re screwed financially. While a lot of us try to squirm and fidget over insurance companies, and what they charge us each month, what would it be like without it?
#IfIHadInsuranceWhen
We recently came across the trending hashtag #IfIHadInsuranceWhen on Twitter. At face value, it looks to describe all the ways not having insurance really bit consumers in their behinds.
Yet, the bulk of the tweets surrounded roommates stealing each other’s food out of the fridge, getting their cellphone stolen, or a jilted ex-partner. The message, however, still highlights the severe financial implications of not being insured when disaster strikes.
Here are some of the tweets we came across:

Why You Need Insurance
In ‘4 Insurance Policies You Can’t Do Without‘ we mentioned the four insurance policies that you simply cannot afford not to have. They are Home Insurance, Car Insurance, Health Insurance, and Life Insurance.
Taking out an insurance policy is essentially ‘transferring risk’ to your insurance provider. Despite this, however, you should still try to avoid a claim at all costs so as to avoid having to pay higher premiums.
Life, however, can have other plans (and it usually does). As the archaic saying goes, “Time and tide wait for no man”. As such, no one is so powerful that they can stop the march of time and all that it prevails.
And, 2016 has been no exception. Many unthinkable things have happened in the short space of the year, it is hard to believe how we packed it all in.
Brexit, the Brangelina break up, corruption across the board in South Africa, Trump winning the United States Presidential elections and the loss of world-renowned icons like Mohammed Ali, Prince, David Bowie and Fidel Castro. 2016 has definitely, in some way or other, been the year of loss and confusion.
Insurance Over The Festive Period
The festive season is rife with disgruntled policyholders who only discover the limits of their insurance policy when it is too late. The holiday hangover of a broken down car, a burst geyser in your home, or a house robbery that cleaned you out, can be the most sobering end to any holiday.
If you do in fact have insurance, there are a few things you should check before you hit the road this holiday. In ‘Your Car Insurance Checklist For The Holidays‘, we run down all the essentials you should consider before going away on holiday. Or, simply ask yourself if your car insurance provides protection for the following:
- Accidental and intentional damage?
- Towing service should you break down?
- Medical service if you are involved in an accident?
- Cover against theft, fire, explosions, and hijacking?
- Windscreen replacement?
- Free car hire if your car is written off and you are far from home?
