The following is a list of the most popular TV series, in no particular order, that have come onto the scene within the last couple of decades. Every modern-day bucketlist includes a list of must-see movies/TV shows, right? Well, in case you haven’t had a chance to write out the series you wish to watch in 2015, we give you full permission to copy and paste the following 30. If that seems a bit excessive, we’ve included information to briefly explain the plot, who should watch it and what will make you become addicted, unable to turn it off, so that you can filter out the ones you think you’d rather skip. Truth be told, I doubt there’ll be many, but the choice is up to you!
1. Game of Thrones
Who? The guy into adventure, drama and fantasy.
Why? Numerous principled families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros.
Addiction Factor? It follows the book to perfection and the acting is superb.
2. Walking Dead
Who? The guy into drama with a few scares.
Why? Police officer, Rick Grimes, leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by zombies.
Addiction Factor? Uh… There are zombies.
3. Arrow
Who? The guy into action, adventure and crime.
Why? Spoiled billionaire, playboy, Oliver Queen, is missing and presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. He returns five years later a changed man, determined to clean up the city as a hooded vigilante, armed with a bow.
Addiction Factor? Each episode leaves you with just the right amount of confusion needed to reach for the next one.
4. Friends
Who? The guy who loves comedy and romance.
Why? When Monica’s high school friend (Rachel) re-enters her life, she sets off on a series of humorous and entertaining events involving Monica’s brother (Ross), her ex-roommate (Phoebe), and her next door neighbours (Chandler & Joey).
Addiction Factor? No matter what, they’ll be there for you.
5. Sons of Anarchy
Who? The guy who’s into a thriller filled with drama and crime.
Why? A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance, in his life, between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club.
Addiction Factor? A twist-filled story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
6.The Big Bang Theory
Who? The guy who enjoys a good laugh.
Why? A woman who moves into an apartment across the hall from two brilliant, but socially awkward, physicists’ shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory.
Addiction Factor? The humour is insanely witty.
7. Breaking Bad
Who? The guy who’s into a thriller filled with drama and crime.
Why? A chemistry teacher, diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer, teams up with his former student, Jesse Pinkman, to cook and sell crystal meth.
Addiction Factor? It’s been rated one of the best series of all time.
8. Orange is the New Black
Who? The guy who enjoys a drama-filled crime with a touch of comedy.
Why? The story of Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties, who is sentenced to fifteen months in prison after being convicted of a decade-old crime of transporting money for her drug-dealing girlfriend.
Addiction Factor? It’s a brilliant script filled with intelligent comedy.
9. Supernatural
Who? The guy who likes a fantasy horror/drama.
Why? Two brothers follow their father’s footsteps as “hunters” fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth.
Addiction Factor? Its spooky plots.
10. The 100
Who? The guy who loves a sci-fi drama.
Why? Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. A spaceship, housing humanity’s lone survivors, sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in the hopes of possibly re-populating the planet.
Addiction Factor? It just gets better and better with every episode.
11. Once Upon A Time
Who? The guy (or should I say girl) who can’t resist romance, fantasy and adventure, all in one.
Why? A woman, with a troubled past, is drawn to a town in Maine where fairy tales are to be believed.
Addiction Factor? Combining romance, fantasy and adventure. Pure genius.
12. House of Cards
Who? The guy who can’t get enough of drama.
Why? A Congressman works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.
Addiction Factor? Requires absolute focus. Very detail-orientated.
13. The Vampire Diaries
Who? The guy who enjoys a fantasy involving drama and a little horror.
Why? A teenage girl is torn between two vampire brothers.
Addiction Factor? It’s Twilight in a series.
14. Sherlock
Who? The guy who loves some mystery, crime, and drama.
Why? A modern update finds the famous sleuth, and his doctor partner, solving crime in 21st century London.
Addiction Factor? It’s the movie, Sherlock Holmes, in a series.
15. Penny Dreadful
Who? The guy who likes a horror-filled drama
Why? Explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, and others, unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London.
Addiction Factor? Strikes the perfect balance between Gothic art-house horror and gory B-movie action.
16. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
Who? The guy who can’t get enough of animation, action and adventure (AAA)
Why? The further adventures of the Marvel Universe’s mightiest, general membership, superhero team.
Addiction Factor? It’s Marvel.
17. Grey’s Anatomy
Who? The guy enjoys drama and romance.
Why? A drama, centred on the personal and professional lives of five surgical interns and their supervisors.
Addiction Factor? The medical stories and relational drama.
18. How I Met Your Mother
Who? The guy who loves the mix of comedy, drama and romance.
Why? A father recounts to his children, through a series of flashbacks, the journey he and his four best friends took leading up to him meeting their mother.
Addiction Factor? The actors have real chemistry and you fall in love with their characters.
19. Blacklist
Who? The guy who enjoys crime and drama filled with mystery.
Why? Former government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) has eluded capture for decades. But, he suddenly surrenders to the FBI with an offer to help catch a terrorist under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone), a young FBI profiler who’s just barely out of Quantico.
Addiction Factor? The mystery.
20. The Mentalist
Who? The guy who enjoys crime and drama filled with mystery.
Why? A famous “psychic” outs himself as a fake and starts working as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation so he can find “Red John,” the madman who killed his wife and daughter.
Addiction Factor? Simon Baker.
21. The Good Wife
Who? The guy who enjoys crime and drama filled with mystery.
Why? Alicia has been a good wife to her husband, a former state’s attorney. After a very humiliating sex and corruption scandal, he is behind bars. She must now provide for her family and returns to work as a litigator in a law firm.
Addiction Factor? The drama.
22. NCIS
Who? The guy who enjoys crime and action mixed up with comedy.
Why? The cases of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service’s Washington DC Major Case Response Team, led by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Addiction Factor? Captivating stories and great character interplay.
23. Castle
Who? The guy who enjoys crime and drama mixed up with comedy.
Why? After a serial killer imitates the plots of his novels, successful mystery novelist Richard “Rick” Castle gets permission from the Mayor of New York City to tag along with an NYPD homicide investigation team for research purposes.
Addiction Factor? Endearing relationship between two leads.
24. Revenge
Who? The guy who likes to sit on the edge of his seat and watch a thriller filled with drama and mystery.
Why? An emotionally troubled young woman makes it her mission to exact revenge against the people who wronged her father.
Addiction Factor? There is mystery, a love story, money, an angry, evil lady, and a lot of good looking people
25. Modern Family
Who? The guy who enjoys a good laugh.
Why? Three different, but related families face trials and tribulations in their own uniquely comedic ways.
Addiction Factor? The evolution of comedy.
26. Person of Interest
Who? The guy who enjoys action and drama filled with mystery.
Why? An ex-assassin and a wealthy programmer saves lives via a surveillance AI that sends them the identities of civilians involved in impending crimes. The details of the crimes – including the civilians’ roles – are, however left a mystery.
Addiction Factor? Great acting and good storyline.
27. Parks and Recreation
Who? The guy who enjoys a good laugh.
Why? The absurd antics of an Indiana town’s public officials as they pursue sundry projects to make their city a better place.
Addiction Factor? Great characters.
28. Scandal
Who? The guy who loves a drama-filled thriller.
Why? A former White House Communications Director starts her own crisis management firm, only to realize her clients are not the only ones with secrets.
Addiction Factor? The fact that you remain on the edge of your seat from the opening scene until the credits.
29. X Files
Who? The guy who enjoys sci-fi and drama filled with mystery.
Why? Two FBI agents, Fox Mulder the believer and Dana Scully the sceptic, investigate the strange and unexplained, while hidden forces work to impede their efforts.
Addiction Factor? The beautifully complicated scenarios, plots and characters.
30. Downton Abbey
Who? The guy who can’t get enough of drama.
Why? A chronicle of the lives of the Crawley family and their servants, beginning in the years leading up to World War I.
Addiction Factor? It’s beautifully produced, well cast, and interesting.
