How many times have you heard,”There is nothing to do in Johannesburg, I could never live there.”
If you live in the concrete jungle and constantly find yourself trying to defend your patch of land, here’s a list of adventures to brag about.
1. Take the leap between the Orlando Towers
The only places to bungee jump in SA are usually in forlorn towns no one has even heard of right? Wrong. Take the leap off the Orlando Towers for a colourful and enthralling bungee jump into the openness. But that’s not all that Orlando Towers offers; Try your hand at abseiling, paintball, rock climbing, scad freefalling, 360-degree view swing and much, much more.
2.Challenge your 4×4 skills with some axle twisters at the Berakah 4×4 Eco-Trail
If you are a 4×4 fanatic, the Berakah 4×4 Eco-Trail is located on the Berakah Farm in Parys, is 15km long and takes around six hours to complete. Navigate through savannah, bushveld, mountainous areas and river beds to reach the Vredefort Dome, a South African World Heritage.
Beware as the trail is not guided and has a difficulty grading of between 2-4. Make sure you are equipped before heading out.
3. Explore some of Gauteng’s most beautiful hiking trails
Yes, Johannesburg has beautiful hiking trails too! Gauteng is home to many beautiful hiking trails such as the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, Bergheim, Uitkyk Trail, Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and Hennops Trails.
Get in touch with nature for the morning with the comfort of knowing you are not too far away from the city.
4. Discover the ancient Wonder Cave, a hidden gem close to Joburg
The Wonder Cave is located in Kromdraai, Gauteng. It is the third-largest cave chamber in South Africa. The large single chamber is 125 m long and 154 m wide. The cave is estimated to be up to 2.2 billion years old. Read more about the Wonder Cave here and see the location and entry fees here.

This area, only 45 km from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, has ideal weather conditions for ballooning and boasts incredible views.
