Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne on April 1, 1976, to develop and sell personal computers. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. on January 3, 1977, and was renamed as Apple Inc. on January 9, 2007, to reflect its shifted focus toward consumer electronics

In November 2014, Apple became the first U.S. company to be valued at over $700 Billion.

The company employs 115 000 permanent full-time employees as of July 2015 and has approximately 478 retail stores in seventeen countries as of March 2016.It also operates the online Apple Store and iTunes Store, the latter being the world’s largest music retailer.

There are over one billion actively used Apple products worldwide as of March 2016. In 2016, Apple announced that they would be making their first original series, a six-episode drama about the life of Dr.Dre.

Apple Inc., also invested $1 billion USD in Didi Chuxing, a Chinese competitor to Uber.

Later this year, the company is expected to unveil the much anticipated iPhone 7.
