If you find yourself in Cape Town over the long weekend, here’s how you can celebrate Heritage Day:

Party @Uthamba Beerworx

This event promises to bring together the diversity of the country with a great atmosphere and some local tunes. Local SAMA Award-winning band, Native Young will be performing on the day. There will be a wide selection of beers, drinks and delicious food to try out while you enjoy the music.

When: 24 September – Doors will open at 11 am and the party will end at 7pm.

Where: The Palms Lifestyle and Decor Centre, Woodstock.

Price: R100 for adult and free for kids under 13. There will be free parking available at the Palms.

If you enjoy a good braai with good food and music in the sunshine, then this event is something to consider. This is a family affair with a drinks stand for the adults and a juggling and circus performance for the kids.

When: 24 September – Doors open at 12pm and will close at 5pm.

Where: The Shed, Stellenbosch.

Price: R120 for adults and R60 for kids (prebooked) / R150 for adults and R60 for kids (at the door).

Afrofest: An Ode To African Culture

This festival is designed to provide the public with firsthand experience at proper African culture. From traditional musical performances to arts and crafts and even local fashion, Afrofest promises to treat Cape Town to some local flair.

 


When: 22 – 23 September – It starts at 10am and ends late.

Where: CBD, Tamboerskloof, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, Rosebank, Pinelands, Langa and Khayelitsha.

Rock Your Mojo – Heritage Day Rock Festival

What could be better than rocking out in a quarry to 14 different local acts with 20 000 watts of Blues Rock Power. This event will take place in an open marquee for you to have enough space to find yourself jammin’.

When: 24 September – From 2:30pm until 10pm.

Where: Hill Crest Quarry, Durbanville.

Celebrating Heritage Day in JHB? Here is how you could celebrate…

Soulful Night Heritage Celebration Concert

Come and enjoy a night out on the town and see Ringo Madlingozi, Selaelo Selota, Vusi Nova and Ntando Bangani in action.

This show will include a collaboration of jazz legends and afro-soul artists showcasing their talents.

When: 23 September – show starts at 7pm.

Where: Carnival City Big Top Arena, Carnival City Casino.

If you find yourself in the Durban area over the long weekend, go and explore some of the celebrations taking place.

Concert, Comedy And Craft

This event will combine amazing local comedians, musicians and a wide selection of craft food. The Concert, Comedy and Craft is in association with East Coast Radio and 1Life. Some of the acts you can look forward to are : Mango Groove, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Mafikizolo to name just a few. With a few laughs from Barry Hilton, Chris Forest and Calvin Goldstone.

When: 25 September – from 10:30am until 5:30pm.

Where: Durban Bontanic Gardens

Price: Tickets are R150 for adults and children over 12, R100 for children between 8 – 12 years old and kids under 8 years old are R20. You can also purchase your tickets from your nearest Pick ‘n Pay.
