June and Barry Steenkamp will put 32 red roses into the ocean at Summerstrand in Port Elizabeth, the same place her ashes were scattered two years ago. It is also the beach the family used to watch the dolphins frolic in the bay.
Reeva was shot dead by boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius in his Pretoria Home in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. The athlete had reportedly mistaken Reeva for an intruder and fired multiple bullets into the locked bathroom door.
“We will rather spend our time thinking about her than Oscar,” said June Steenkamp.
SA Cover Girl with a big heart
Reeva was self-described on her social media platforms as ‘SA Model, Cover Girl, Tropika Island of Treasure Celeb Contestant, Law Graduate, Child of God’.
The blonde, blue-eyed beauty, born August 19, 1983, was a vivacious and bubbly young woman, with an infectious smile.
Two months prior to her death, Steenkamp had expressed her wish to walk down the aisle as she tweeted,”Being around this bridal party makes me appreciate my friends & look forward to the day I get married to the man of my dreams. #weddings”.
Like many women in their late twenties, Steenkamp had also expressed her wish to become a mom. Seven months before her death she posted a picture of a young boy and girl wearing stylish outfits which she followed up with the caption, “Hello my future kids!!!! #style #swag #justlikemommy”.
Sadly these two hopes for the future will never be fulfilled.
Oscar Pistorius is set to be released from prison on Friday, August 21, after serving just 10 months of his five-year sentence.
Advocate Gerrie Nel has lodged an appeal against the Paralympian , hoping to contest a more serious crime of murder against Pistorius with a minimum of 15 years in prison.
