Vodacom has recently announced their interim results, for the past six months, which had ended on 30 September 2016.
During the presentation, Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub, announced the company’s plans to offer its own On Demand video streaming service in partnership with MultiChoice (DSTV) and Showmax.

Introducing Vodacom VoD
According to the slide, the service will work on both Android and iOS devices as well as on web browsers. This clearly highlights Vodacom’s intentions to make their streaming service mobile centric.
It is also the only platform in South Africa which offers TVOD (transactional video on demand) or SVOD (subscription video on demand) options.
TVOD means that you pay for each piece of content when you watch it, which is great if you’re not interested in watching tons of content on the service.
SVOD means that you pay a subscription fee and then will be able to watch all the content on the platform (presumably).
We’ve reached out to Showmax who have said that they are not able to comment until the official launch takes place, as well as Vodacom who have stated that the service will launch in January 2017.
