by Samsung’s CES 2017 Press Conference was expected to be all about home electronics, as it had been in previous years. And, to a large degree, it was. Samsung also announced, however, the Samsung Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro. The latest generation of its Chromebooks.
Introducing The Samsung Chromebook
According to Samsung, they partnered with Google to design this next generation Chromebook, which is designed for Google Play. This is so that you can use all the Android apps you love on your smartphone.
Not only that, but the new Samsung Chromebooks also offer a 360-degree rotating touchscreen, quad HD screen, built-in digitized pen, and new lightweight metal design.
“Since launching our first Chromebook over five years ago, we have continued to improve the product. Developing a computer that not only fits into consumers’ lifestyles, but makes their lives easier, more mobile, and more productive,” said Alanna Cotton, vice president of product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “With the Chromebook Plus and Pro, we’re partnering with Google to pair a sleek design with supreme flexibility. Encouraging users to experience more with Google Play and Android apps, while continuing to provide simplicity, top-rated security, and shareability inherent in Chromebooks.”
The S-Pen
Samsung has clearly leveraged the popularity of it’s S-Pen, which is traditionally found in its popular Note series. For the first time in the Chromebook lineup, they’ve included a built-in pen. The pen is embedded on the side of the device. The pen brings tablet-like benefits to the Chromebook. These include the ability to take notes and capture on-screen content. The pen is ready to use out of the box with pre-installed Google Keep. For note-taking and Samsung ArtCanvas for drawing.
Samsung says that this newly developed pen has a 0.7mm pen tip and pressure sensitivity for precise screen capturing.
Other Features
The new Chromebook includes a Quad HD 2400×1600 resolution display made of Gorilla Glass 3. With a 3:2 aspect ratio, and includes two USB-C ports.
The Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro also lets you access apps, work on documents, or listen to a playlist while offline. Additionally, traditional Chromebook features, like built-in anti-virus and automatic updates, remain.
The new Chromebooks have 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and feature batteries that last up to 8 hours**. This alog with an enhanced battery life extender to lengthen productivity time. The Samsung Chromebook Plus will feature an ARM processor. While the Chromebook Pro will be powered by an Intel® Core™ m3 processor. Both devices will come with the Google Play Store (Beta) pre-installed.
