Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille, announced in a statement on Sunday that the Mother City would be continuing its green initiative by introducing electrically-powered buses.
Eco-Friendly, Electric-Powered MyCiTi Buses
This will form part of the MyCiTi service and 10 buses are expected to reach the roads by June 2017.
“Apart from lowering our carbon emissions, local residents will also benefit from this contract through job opportunities.”
The green initiative will also pay tribute to local tradesmen and all parts will be manufactured and assembled locally.
“The contractor will be employing local staff and will have to source some of the bus components from local suppliers.
De Lille ended by saying that this would be the first time electric buses are manufactured and assembled in Cape Town.
