In celebration of its ten-year partnership with RED, an HIV/AIDS fund raising organisation, Apple has released a red iPhone. The phone is a standard iPhone 7 and 7 PLUS. With no additional features, apart from its vibrant aluminium red finish.
Customers who purchase this version of the phone will rest assured that a portion of their spend is going directly to the global fight against HIV/AIDS. The main portion of the funds will be sponsored directly to the greatest impacted area in the world, sub-Saharan Africa.
Long-Standing Partnership
Apple has, for ten years, been supporting programmes that support HIV/AIDS victims. The programmes centre around testing, counselling, and medicine that prevents the transmission of the disease from mother to unborn child.
Apple CEO, Tim Cook, was excited to get the phone to customers all over the world. “Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.”
100% of all money raised by (RED) goes directly to Global Fund HIV / AIDS grants. It was founded in 2006 and has since generated more than $465 million for the Global Fund. More than $130 million has come from Apple alone.
Finally On SA Shores
After a long wait, this red version has finally hit South African shores. The phone was released during the course of March to handpicked countries world-wide. 40 countries were able to pick up the phone from their local iStore from 24 March.
