November Fuel Price To Decrease

November Fuel Price To Decrease

It’s hard to believe that, back in 2000, petrol (averaged between 93 and 95-grade) cost only R1.73 per litre. Fast forward to 2019 and we’ve frequently come dangerously close to hitting that R17 mark.

Petrol - November Fuel Price To Decrease

With the tightening of the belt, motorists have adapted their driving habits and adopted several methods of saving:

  • Planning trips and errands ahead of time, and mapping out the most fuel-efficient routes before leaving home;
  • Using highways, and timing trips to avoid peak traffic where possible;
  • Freewheeling;
  • Carpooling;
  • Trying to keep the petrol tank filled above halfway;
  • Driving slowly;
  • And even going so far as to keep their windows closed while driving to reduce drag on the vehicle, and removing all unnecessary items to reduce weight.

We know that last one sounds a little drastic, but this is what people have resorted to in an effort to save fuel, save money and save time. Mercifully, however, the fuel price is expected to drop this month.

Let’s take a look.

Fuel Price To Drop In November

Toward the end of October, the Automobile Association, commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund, speculated that we may be due for a decrease in the fuel price. This was confirmed this week by the Department of Energy, publishing the official petrol price changes for November, showing decreases across the board.

The price of both 93 and 95-grade petrol will decrease by 13 cents per litre. Diesel will drop by 14 cents and 16 cents for 0.005% and 0.05%, respectively. Illuminating paraffin will see a much-needed decrease of 23 cents per litre (wholesale) and the cost of LPGAS will drop by 30 cents per kilogram.

The price cuts, largely due to international petroleum price decreases, will come into effect on Wednesday, 6 November.

According to the department, the decreases would have been greater, had the rand performed better against the US dollar.

As per the AA:

” Whatever happens to the oil price and rand from this point affects the price motorists will be paying at the pumps at Christmas. It remains to be seen whether this month’s reductions will continue for the rest of the year. ”

We take what we can get, and keep those windows shut.
