GoPro Recalls Karma Drone

2016 feels like the year of tech recalls. Or, at the very least, the year that tech products didn’t quite work the way their manufacturers intended.

No-one knows this more than Samsung, but it appears that GoPro is joining the party.

GoPro Recall

The company has issued a recall for ALL their Karma drones sold in the United States.

The company has announced that they discovered, that in a small number of cases, Karma units lost power during operation. This appears to affect all 2 500 Karma drones sold in the US.

GoPro says that they are “investigating the issue and working in close coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration.”

Questions Regarding The Recall

Is there a recall on HERO5 Black or Karma Grip?

No. The recall is only for the Karma drone. HERO5 Black and Karma Grip are not subject to a recall. If, however, you purchased the Karma drone bundle package, which included HERO5 Black and Karma Grip, you must return those with your Karma drone for a full refund.

My Karma drone appears to be operating okay. Can I continue to use it?

No. Even though your Karma appears to be working fine, GoPro is asking all customers to immediately stop using the product and participate in the recall.

Can I exchange my Karma drone for one that is not affected?

No. GoPro is recalling all Karma units and providing a full refund. They are investigating the issue and plan to make the Karma drone available once it has been resolved.

Will a refund be issued for Karma?

Will I receive a refund for GoPro Care for Karma? And what if I bought accessories?

I no longer have the receipt for the product. Can I still return it?

Yes. You can still return the product without a receipt.

Do I have to return all the components received with the Karma drone if I purchased a Karma drone bundle?

Yes. Even though the recall is only for the Karma drone, all components included with the Karma drone bundle, including HERO5 Black and Karma Grip, must be returned for a full refund.

The GoPro Karma has not yet been released in South Africa and this recall will most likely affect the local launch date.
