Car Wars: Mercedes GLE 63s AMG Coupe Vs. BMW X6 M

BMW and Mercedes Benz are renowned rivals. The two brands are at a constant battle to try and outdo each other. The X6 and the GLE 63s proved this once again when they were released. The X6 was released first, with the GLE hot on its heels, creating their version of the SUC / coupe cross over.

Both cars are absolute powerhouses, with reviews stating that should the power of the cars be harnessed, they would be able to power a small town. Most agree that the BMW is not a creature of beauty, whereas the Mercedes struts in with sleek lines and flawless design. The need for yet more SUV / coupe types is also questioned. We believe, however, that they do simply make the world more fun.

Exterior

Mercedes GLE 63s AMG Coupe

Taking cue from the BMW X6, this was built as a coupe / SUV cross-over. It boasts large, intimidating front air intakes, a unique rear bumper, with quad exhaust outlet, and AMG badging all over the body. It has 22-inch wheels wearing 285 / 40 front and 325 / 35 rear tyres. You can expect an arched window, tapering pillars, strong haunches, and horizontal tail-lights, which bring to mind the S-class coupe.

BMW X6 M

Many people are confused as to how to classify the car. The easiest explanation is a luxury crossover SUV. It has sleek, coupe-like styling, and offers increased ground clearance, for better capability in deep snow or moderate terrain.

Interior

Mercedes GLE 63s AMG Coupe

Inside, the car has a sporty, three-spoke steering wheel, and aluminum shift paddles. It is luxurious with carbon fibre finishes, touches of wood, and an airy, spacious interior. It is kitted out with everything you need for a smooth, powerful ride.

BMW X6 M

The interior of the X6 is somewhat disappointing for most. Despite its size and bulk, it doesn’t actually have a lot of room for many passengers. It only has four seats with high seating positions, and less headroom for rear passengers. It offers less cargo space than the X5.

Special Features

Mercedes GLE 63s AMG Coupe

The car comes fitted with COMAND connectivity and infotainment, displayed on an 8-inch screen. Harman Kardon and Bang & Olufsen audio systems are included, as well as a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. A parking package adds parking assist and surround-view cameras.

BMW X6 M

BMW’s, still excellent, iDrive system works well within the 10.25-inch display, which includes a full 360-degree parking camera and DAB+ digital radio. ConnectedDrive, the live telemetry system BMW uses to keep the car up-to-date with its surroundings, provides real-time traffic and navigation route information, as well as a range of operator-assisted services. These include:

  • Heated seats
  • Heated mirrors
  • 1st row regular express open / close sliding and tilting glass sunroof
  • Front and rear independent air conditioning
  • Keyless entry
  • Driver and passenger lumbar support
  • Parking assist
