The Ombud also noted some worrying trends of unfair treatment towards the consumer. Specifically, in the industry as a whole. There trends were:
- Policy drafting in unclear language
- A general lack of consumer understanding of the precise nature of motor cover
- Unreliable state laboratory tests on legal alcohol limits that were then used to repudiate (reject) car insurance claims
- Intimidating or aggressive insurance assessors trying to bully people who lodge claims
