A Mandela Day Inspired Adventure

Trek4Mandela Executive Climb 2015

This grueling expedition involves a team of 35 business leaders and celebrities climbing their way to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on Mandela Day, 18 July 2015, in support of 270 000 impoverished girls from rural and disadvantaged schools with sanitary towels to keep them in school.

Every year on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, people around the world are asked by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to spare 67 minutes of their time to help others. This is in honour of the 67 years that the late South African president spent fighting for social justice, freedom and democracy.

According to research, many underprivileged young girls may miss approximately 50 days of school annually due to menstrual hygiene related challenges. It isn’t uncommon for these girls to use unhygienic materials such as cloths, newspapers and grass as an alternative and this can have many adverse effects on their health.

This excursion to the ‘roof of Africa’ will be lead by South African adventurer and mountaineer Sibusiso Vilane with the mission of creating awareness on the challenges facing impoverished girls and their monthly cycles. It also aims to raise funds to purchase sanitary towels to keep them in school.
