A total of 81 CEOs, of major South African corporations, have shown their support for the current finance minister, Pravin Gordhan, amidst fraud claims.
Last month, the Hawks accused Gordhan of fraud when he signed off on an early retirement package for Ivan Pillay.
This support comes just days before Gordhan is due to deliver his mini-budget speech and a week before he will appear in court to face the fraud charges imposed by the Hawks.

Support From The South African CEO Initiative
The CEO initiative released a statement dismissing the fraud charges on behalf of all connected CEOs.
“We stand as one for the rule of law and against the decision to prosecute the Minister of Finance on charges that are, according to the preponderance of expert legal opinion, without factual or legal foundation and not in the public interest.”
This initiative was formed as far back as December 2015 when Nhlanhla Nene was fired as Finance Minister and Desmond Van Rooyen took office for three days.
“We stand against the damage this has caused to our economy and to the people of South Africa, especially the poor.”
