Smartphone photography has been on the rise, as evidenced by the massive focus that many platforms are putting into their photo-sharing capabilities.
This means that, not only are there now more ways to share your awesome vacation pictures but, there are also tons of apps out there to help you turn those smartphone pics into veritable works of art.
Here Are 5 Of Our Favourite Picture-Editing Apps
1. Prisma
Probably the hottest photography app since Instagram, Prisma is easily one of our favourite apps.
It has a range of “filters”, which turn your entire picture into a work of art by making it look, literally, like a painting or other piece of art.
Thanks to an update, it can now do the same for super short (15 second) videos.
Once you’ve taken your picture, you’ll need to import it to the app (or use the camera built into the app) and then select the “filter” you’d like to use.
The entire process is very quick and takes less than a minute.
The best part? You can save each filtered photo and use them later if you’d like.
Available on Android and iOS.
Cost: Free.
2. Adobe Lightroom
Adobe is a well-known name for photo editing … on PC and Mac.
The company has released a mobile version of its popular photo editing software.
You get a free trial to try the app out.
Once you’ve signed in or opted to try the free trail, you are able to import pictures into the app for editing.
The options are varied and far more detailed than the average photo-editing app, but not in a confusing way.
Once you’re used to the app, you’ll find yourself adjusting everything from the white balance to changing the aspect ratio.
Available on Android and iOS.
Cost: Free (in-app purchases and subscription required).
3. PhotoScan
Google knows apps, and they definitely know photos. So, when the company unveiled PhotoScan, pretty much everyone rejoiced.
Unlike other apps which let you tweak your digital photos, PhotoScan lets you scan physical photos and convert them to a digital format.
Yup, no more having to worry about losing photos or not being able to show them off whenever you want.
The best part? When you scan the photos, you don’t get any of the glossy reflections that you usually get when attempting to scan physical pictures.
Available on Android and iOS.
Cost: Free.
4. Mextures
If you want to give your digital pictures an analogue feel, then this is the app for you.
You can do everything from add grit, grain, and vintage textures to your images, to adding light leaks and then layering them on top of each other.
You’re also able to save, and even share, these formulas, which means that you won’t have to set up your favourite formulas again and again.
Available on iOS.
Cost: R29.99.
5. Touch Retouch
This is the app you need for touching up your photos.
Taken the perfect selfie and realised that you have a zit?
Taken an amazing picture of the Eiffel Tower and then discovered that someone’s wandered into the shot?
This app lets you touch up blemishes, imperfections, and unwanted elements from photos.
Available on Android and iOS.
Cost: R19.90 (Android) R29.99 (iOS).
