A WhatsApp voice note has gone viral where a woman describes that to get Wits Vice Chancellor Adam Habib’s attention, “A white person must be killed in order to get their voices heard”.
The voice note starts with a comment on how disappointed protesters were about how Habib had handled the #FeesMustFall protest.
“So they are saying that in order to get Habib’s attention, at least one white student must die.”
Eye Witness News contacted Wits Management in order to ascertain if they were aware of the voice note. Wits considered the voice note a scare tactic by #FeesMustFall protesters in order to scare the #TakeWitsBack protesters who held a silent protest today on campus.
#TakeWitsBack Movement
The #TakeWitsBack protest was to showcae the other side of the story where students were aggravated by the cancellation of classes. Signboards such as, “Free Education not Freeze Education”.
The movement has caused an uproar on Twitter with the main thought being that the #TakeWitsBack protesters simply do not know the struggles and regard the #FeesMustFall movement as an “inconvenience”. Here are some tweets expressing this thought:
Dear privileged few; Is it too much to ask that you take out the silver spoon in your mouth to let others eat? Down with #TakeWitsBack

#TakeWitsBack has created a divisive atmosphere among students. We should be standing together not against each other. This fight is for all.

Is it really privilege when kids doing 7 year courses are under threat of not writing 2016 finals? #TakeWitsBack https://t.co/rpWSbVxznI
